The Bourne Identity
I've been reading The Bourne Identity by Robert Ludlum for awhile now. I'm a big fan of the movies, and I like Ludlum, so I decided to give it a read. I found that there are actually four Bourne books, which makes me want to get through the first three books so I can get to the story that the movies haven't gotten to yet. So far it has not disappointed. Several of the characters are the same between the book and the movie, but their are more details about the decisions Jason Bourne makes, why he makes them, and the thoughts that go through his head. The overall plot is pretty similar, but the movie "Hollywood's" it up quite a bit. Marie is still a main character trying to help him recover his memory while eluding all the attempts to kill Bourne, but the way in which they meet and the people trying to assassinate him are all different. The original movie is probably my second favorite of all-time, but being a third of the way through the book, my guess is that the book will easily surpass it. The Hollywood fights in the movie are great, but things have a lot more depth and are easier to follow in the book. Obviously I wish I could see the fights portrayed in the book, but the book is very well written and easy to both follow and picture in your head. The only big knock on the book is that essentially the entire book so far takes place on foreign soil, so understanding the geography and layout of cities like Zurich, Paris, and Marseilles can be a bit difficult. Definitely worth a read if you enjoyed the movie.
